1. Find a site

You should talk to the local council and real estate agent and find out whether the site has; Cavets allowing for relocated homes

You should also obtain a LIM report from the council to see if there are; Any building restrictions Flooding issues Protected trees Other interested parties: Such as historic places.

2. Find a new home

This may be one of Brittons pre-loved homes that we have for sale, one you may have found elsewhere independently or even your own home you wish to relocate.

3. Brittons will inspect the route and the site and conclude if;

the house can be delivered in one piece or cut into 2 or more pieces;

Whether it can be relocated with the roof intact or that needs to be removed.

Or whether other obstacles to facilitate the shift have to be dealt with (such as trees, fences and other such obstcles)

We will then provide a quotation outlining yours and Brittons responsibilities. Once you have read this we would be happy to answer any questions, concerns or explain technical terms.

4. Obtain quotations form other sub traders to perform other services before and after the relocation.

These may include;

  • Electricians
  • Plumber
  • Drain Layer
  • Gas Disconnections
  • A builder for the new building work, reinstatement, alterations or repairs

5. Obtain building consent and possibly resource consent from your local council.

The council will require plans to be drawn by a qualified draftsperson or engineer.

They may also require a building report and appraisal from a liscensed builder as to the condition of the home, the weather tightness, that upon completion it will be at an acceptable local standard

6. Sign contract and return to Brittons an pay any deposits required.

7. During a relocation Brittons will:

  • Provide all the necessary labour, plant and equipment to perform the work.
  • Prepare the building by removing any chimneys, steps, baseboards, waste, water and gas pipes etc, as may be necessary to free the building.
  • Cut the building and remove the roof as Brittons deem necessary for transportation and load onto our specalised fully hydraulic transporters.
  • Transport the building to new site.
  • Arrange and pay for all necessary transportation permits, pilots escourts etc as required.
  • Re-errect the building onto approved 125mm treated timber piles set in concrete footings.
  • Fix the building onto its piles.
  • Where a building has to be cut for transportation, cleat the building together again at floor level, celling level, rafter and purlin levels.
